Match Update

We found out today that we're back to square one with the adoption process. The birth mother we spoke to a couple of weeks ago has chosen another family to adopt her child. For them, we are thrilled. And we are excited to know that her child will have a good home to go to. For us, it's a little bittersweet.

48 Days To The Work You Love by Dan Miller

Are you living beneath your dignity?

Yes, I know times are tough.  I spoke at a conference recently and had the opportunity to talk to people who are wondering if there is any reason to be cheerful or optimistic. As a Russian priest (1829 – 1908), Father John Sergiev first thought he wanted to be a monk in the remote areas of [...]

No Money – No Problem

This question from a reader addresses a common concern: Considering that my calling is going to involve a large pile of cash, how do I balance the principles that you teach about following your calling, and while keeping in mind the principals Dave Ramsey teaches, which include not taking on more debt? (For example, I [...]

When Helping Hurts

Drive into any national park and you’ll see the signs – “Don’t feed the bears.” Scientists tell us that bears will quickly become dependent on human food, and while they are not particularly fond of humans they like the arrangement of free food.  And once dependent on that food they will attack the same providers [...]

Faith Cometh by Hearing… Another Look

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17) As you no doubt know by now, I find myself in the fiery trial of faith, where what I say I believe is being stress tested in real time with the highest of stakes. My wife’s life lies in the [...]

InsideWork

6: Finish Strong

We must develop a compelling vision of later life, one that does not assume a trajectory of decline after fifty but recognizes this as a time of potential change, growth, and new learning, a time when our "courage gives us hope." Changes in life expectancy do not merely mean years added to the end, but an extension of the years of healthy and productive living.Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot The Third Chapter - Passion, Risk, and Adventure in the 25 Years After 50 , (p. 144), Sarah Crichton Books, 2009

A Question for the Information Age

Dan Wooldridge reflects on the difference between information, knowledge, and the wisdom we desperately need.

Are CEOs Underchallenged?

Whole Foods Chairman and CEO John Mackey notes that executive pay in the United States is 300 times greater than the wages of average workers. Are CEOs overpaid? At InsideWork, we think there may be an even bigger question: are CEOs under-challenged?
